Formentera rural tourism

Formentera is undoubtedly one of the most sought after islands of the Balearic Islands. It is the place chosen by the majority of tourists who look after sun and beach. Recently we told you everything to see in Formentera and most of the recommendations were its emblematic beaches and paradisiacal coves.

Today we will talk about the other side of Formentera, one that very few know. We will see all the potential of Formentera to enjoy quality Rural Tourism.

Natural Park of Ses Salines

It is a natural space located between the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. It can be visited as a family and it is an unparalleled opportunity to enjoy the views of native species of Formentera, whether fauna or flora.

Surely if you plan to visit the island as a family, this will be a plan that the little ones in the house will love. With what, if you dare to go, we recommend paying special attention to the Estany Pudent, an emblematic place because of the great presence of flamingos in the area.

Ethnological Museum of Formentera

This is one of the best historical museums to return to the origins of the island and live them in their own skin. The museum is located in the town of San Francisco and you can see the different exhibitions of tools and utensils that were used in ancient times for the production of different foods, furniture, wines, etc.

Roman Road of Sa Pujada

If your intention is to do a rural tourism, the Rural Road of Sa Pujada is one of the mandatory visits. This road, which started in Es Caló, connected La Mola with the rest of the island. The views that can be enjoyed during this small excursion are enchanting and, for this reason, this place was declared of Cultural Interest. Oh, and do not forget to wear appropriate footwear for the occasion because, as its name indicates, the ground is paved, reminding us of the ancient Roman roads.

But, if what you want is an excursion with pedals, we recommend the Nordic March, a bicycle route whose route is uneven.

Cova Foradada

Also known as Cueva del Faro de Barbaria, it is one of the most sought after places by tourists due to the charm hidden among its four walls. This cave is accessed through a hole a few meters from the beach, inside you have to walk carefully as it is a humid terrain but for which you can take a guided tour with ease. But all this is worth it when you reach the balcony at the end of the cave and enjoy a prodigious sunset.

The Windmills

This charming island has 3 mills dating from the s. XVIII and are very close to San Francisco Javier. Although there are others these are still in operation, being very useful for obtaining wheat flour.

Hippie Market La Molina

It is also known as the Craft Fair of La Mola and is open every summer afternoon until October 12th. It is a market full of handmade products of all kinds, from food to handbags, paintings or jewellery. If you are going to visit the island in summer, add this visit to your rural tourism plan in Formentera.

Defence Towers

To defend against the Ottoman and corsair troops, it was decided from Ibiza to build defence towers on its neighbouring island, Formentera. Its interior and the views offered by this construction are different from any other view you can get in the rest of the island. We recommend you to visit the Torre des Punta Prima or the Torre des Garroveret, which will fascinate you.

Megalithic tomb of Ca Na Costa

This Sepulchre was a great discovery to define the prehistory of the Island. It is located in the Natural Park of Ses Salines and is formed by a funeral chamber together with three rings that surround it. It is a chamber in which 6 men and 2 women were buried, accompanied by materials such as necklaces, ceramics, etc.

Migjorn Footbridge

It is possible to enjoy the views of the beach without having to go into them. Near Migjorn beach there is a wooden walkway that allows you to feel the sea breeze while watching a spectacular sunset.
